| The Society for Creative Anachronism is a not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to learning, through re-creation, about the middle ages (approx 500 - 1600) in Western Europe. The Society currently has 13 Kingdoms which encompass the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Europe, and some parts of Latin America, and there is even a small group organized on one of the US Navy Aircraft Carriers. |

Although my real name is Tom Hufford and I live in Arlington, Virginia: Within the society, I am known as Lord Patrick O'Reilly the Tall. My persona is that of a mid - 1500's Irish merchant who lives in an area known as the Barony of Ponte Alto within the Kingdom of Atlantia.

Members within the Society are allowed to register their name and a device. The device is the shield portion of a Coat of Arms. After a member has been in the society for a period of time, they are awarded an "Award of Arms". This entitles them to being called Lord or Lady and allows them to display their device (once it is registered). My device is described:
"Per Chevron Vert and Argent,
Two Mullets and a Shamrock,
a Bordure Engrailed counterchanged"
and this is what it looks like!
